Katherine Hansen Art
Katherine C. Hansen was born and raised in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. After attending the University of Illinois, she travelled to Greece where she has had a lifelong adventure. She still resides there part of the year.
The artist first began painting on the backs of love letters and journal pages. When a writer friend bought a painting to use on the cover of her then-upcoming book, Katherine began painting on watercolor paper. Using watercolors and pastels, she paints in three different styles: Impressionistic, Naïve, and Abstract. Color is very important in her paintings as well as her life. Her outsider art has been exhibited in Athens, Greece; Chicago; and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
Katherine Hansen’s watercolors have a youthful exhuberance. The paintings are created with a sense of innocence; everything about them is fresh and lively. It is as if she created a life in her paintings without conscious intent. The essence of Hansen’s paintings and good watercolors is the capturing and making permanent the fleeting moment -- creating paintings that are forever young. Katherine Hansen is a natural watercolorist.
